One staff sergeant has been released from a rehabilitation center after nearly three years. In 2006, the man suffered a traumatic brain injury from a grenade attack in Iraq. He can’t walk or talk, but can communicate through sounds and facial expressions.

Bar fight leaves man with brain injury

A man is in critical condition after being severely beaten in a fight last weekend. The man who suffered personal injuries is now in intensive care with a swollen brain. His family believed he would be brain dead. The brain injury victim was hit over the head with a champagne bottle.

Brain injury victims aim for independence at transitional living center

When a brain injury affects your daily life, it affects almost every aspect. For one man, still suffering from the effects of a 1979 car accident, the future is looking a little brighter. The 60 year-old car accident victim has a doctorate in mathematics from Brown University and a genius level IQ, but the brain injury he sustained has affected many of the most simple aspects of his life.

Recently, the 60 year-old man moved into a brand-new transitional living facility for brain injury victims. The facility’s goal is to help those with traumatic brain injuries become more independent and transition to independent living.

City to pay $13 million to brain injury victim

The 11 year-old boy who was injured in a car accident where the driver was an employee of the city police department and suffered brain damage will receive a $13 million settlement. The boy was in a brain trauma coma for a month and had 18 surgical procedures.

Brain tumor found in 3 day-old baby

A pediatric neurosurgeon recently removed a tiny foot and other partially formed body parts in a newborn’s brain tumor. The baby was 3 days old and otherwise healthy. This type of brain injury is rare – doctors were unsure what caused it and opined it was a type of congenital brain tumor.

A Son’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Leads to Creation of a Brain Injury Safe Haven

TBI Clubhouses are opening around the nation to help support brain injured victims. Brain injuries can occur for a variety of reasons from participation in contact sports to involvement in a car accident or bike accident. Brain injuries leave some victims unable to function or carry out daily tasks to live on their own. Traumatic Brain Injury homes exist to provide support, a social network and medical care to victims of brain injuries. A mother whose son experienced a brain injury after a truck accident has opened a new Midwest clubhouse to provide support to families who struggle similar to herself. Car accident resulted in severe brain injury

A car accident that resulted in a wrongful death lawsuit also resulted in traumatic brain injury for the victim. The defendant driver failed to stop at a stop sign and tried to turn eastbound, causing the victim to swerve to avoid a direct impact. As a result, his car swerved and tripped on the median curb, rolled over, and slammed up against a palm tree. The roof was crushed and he was ejected into the street. He sustained a serious head injury that resulted in his wrongful death a week later.

Documentary to follow couple’s journey after wife’s brain injury

Months before an Illinois couple were to wed, the future bride’s life was shattered in a car accident. She suffered a devastating brain injury which left her impaired and unable to walk. It took the 24 year-old seventeen days to open her eyes and another seven months to utter a word.

The couple wed seven years and thousands of hours of physical therapy to help the brain injury after their original wedding date. The husband runs often outside while pushing his wife in her wheelchair. This couple’s tale of coping after the brain injury will air Sunday, December 14 at 7pm in Chicago on the Discovery Health Channel.

Toys that may cause brain injury still on shelves

This holiday season, parents have to be wary of the toys they buy for their children. New lead standards will not take effect until February and stores may have toys on their shelves now that contain lead. Nearly a third of toys on shelves tested contained medium to high levels of dangerous chemicals that could cause brain injury.

Brain injury victim about to undergo experimental procedure

Soon, a four-year old girl from New Zealand will undergo experimental treatment for her brain injury. The four-year old was born six weeks early with a birth injury and struggles to talk, walk properly, and chew her food without choking. More than fifty other children with brain injuries have been treated with this procedure. She will receive infusions of her own umbilical cord blood, which her parents stored at birth.
