Medical Trial in Place to Protect Injured People from Brain Injuries

A new medical trial is taking place at Parkland Memorial Hospital, in an attempt to protect people injured from suffering traumatic brain injuries. Giving patients estrogen, they believe, could protect against brain injuries after a traumatic injury. The trial is going to involve only males, some getting the drug and others getting a placebo. The drug must be administered within two hours of the accident to prevent the possible brain injury; this has led to an ethical debate about whether they can give the drug to people who don’t consent.
